Averof Neophytou, chair of the Parliamentary Committee of Financial Affairs, pressured political parties to give their clear position on the establishment of a new Vice-ministry of Tourism.

AKEL, in particular, is against abolishing KOT (Cyprus Tourism Organisation) and believes that the best route forwards is the incorporation of KOT into the structure of the new vice-ministry.

Tourism industry groups and bodies however, are in agreeance with the government and call for an immediate establishment of the Vice-ministry. KOT and the government see the development as an important reform that will allow for the new vice-minister to be directly accountable to the President of the Republic and the Council of Ministers, in order for the coutry to achieve a new horizontal national tourism strategy.
