Prisoners in Nicosia Central Prison will stage a protest on Thursday over alleged delays and favouritism in examining applications for parole.

According to Reporter website, the prisoners have sent a letter to Parliament questioning the conditions and the speed in which parole applications are examined.

They claim that the Parole Board discriminates and makes distinctions based on “how famous” an applicant is.

The prisoners say that some parole requests are examined in due course, while others are subject to unjustifiable lengthy delays.

They say that there are cases of prisoners who have been already released on parole, while others who have submitted parole requests earlier than those released, are still in prison.
