Police today started placing officers at traffic lights and intersections with heavy traffic congestion in Nicosia.

On Friday, a police helicopter flew over Nicosia twice to ‘map’ the problem and identify the areas where most of the traffic is concentrated.

Every day, starting from 06:15 am traffic officers will be manning Kalispera city lights at the entrance of Nicosia from the Nicosia-Limassol highway, the CyBC lights, Strovolos-Athalassa avenues, Strovolou-Archbishop Kyprianos aenues as well as Archangelou, Lefkotheou and Byzantiou avenues.

Traffic officers will also be at the CyBC traffic lights, Strovolos Avenue, Archbishop Kyprianos Avenue and at the Presidential Palace roundabout after 3:00pm every afternoon.

According to philenews, citizens reported that in certain areas, the measure has already led to a decrease of up to 20 minutes in their commute time.
