The unbelievable troubles that patients at the Limassol general hospital have to go through in order to undergo cataract surgery raise many questions.

A 79-year-old patient reported to ‘Phileleftheros’ that during the pre-surgery examination the ophthalmologist told him to visit a specific doctor with a private practice so that he can ‘measure his eye’ before surgery at the hospital.

‘I called both the doctor recommended and my own ophtalmologist and the former wanted €50 more: I ended up visiting my own doctor’ the patient said. He added that if he did not wish to visit a private physician for this measurement, the waiting list at the Limassol hospital would be so long that he would lose his turn for the surgery and would have to wait for at least another year. ‘It is hard to believe that they cannot perform a simple test in the hospital and have to send as out’, said the 79-year-old.
