November 9, 2018 at 12:32pm

Police arrested a 26-year-old, suspected of illegally possessing firearms, after a dramatic car chase in Limassol on Thursday.

The incident happened around 10:35 pm, when a police patrol car spotted a car without a licence plate on its rear in Kato Polemidia, Limassol.

The officers signaled the driver to stop, but instead he sped away.

Then, police started chasing him and fired a number of warning shots. However, the driver got away, driving through empty fields.

After investigation, authorities identified the driver as a 26-year-old Limassol resident.

Around 11 pm they went to his home and arrested him.

Officers checked the car that was parked outside and found a shotgun and a radio transceiver inside.

After further investigations, police found that the car was not insured, did not have certified MOT, while its registration expired in 2012 and it had been declared as immobilised in 2014.

The suspect was charged for illegal possession of firearms and for a number of traffic violations.
