Low pressure is affecting the area and Wednesday will start off mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms which may be accompanied by hail.

A yellow alert issued yesterday afternoon is in force until 3 pm.

In issuing its alert, the Met Office warned that thunderstorms, probably accompanied by hail are expected to affect the area. Locally, the accumulated precipitation may exceed 35 mm per hour, it added.

“Be aware that thunderstorms may occur. Take extra care in exposed areas, like mountains, forest and open terrain. Disruption to outdoor activities is possible,” the Met Office said.

Temperatures today are expected to rise to 21 C inland and on the coasts and 12 C in the mountains.

Tonight will become partly cloudy and some isolated showers are possible. Temperatures will fall to 8 C inland, around 12 C on the coasts and 5 C in the mountains.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy at intervals with the possibility of scattered showers, mainly in the mountains. Temperatures will edge up over the three days to a little above average for the time of year.
