Limassol district court on Wednesday remanded a 62 year old woman employee of the district office in custody for six days as police investigate a shortfall of €14,800, philenews reported.

The woman, who worked as a deputy cashier, allegedly pocketed money paid to the district office in cash which she did not record in the books.

According to police, the shortfall of €14,800 was created between March 1 and April 16, 2019.

The woman is suspected of pocketing money for district office services such as issuing passports, identities and other documents, although she provided receipts to the citizens.

She has reportedly admitted to committing the offence while being interviewed by police.

She said that she wanted the money as her family is facing financial problems due to the health condition of her husband.

Police are continuing investigations.
