There has been a spike in complaints to Paphos Municipality and the Water Department of an unpleasant smell in drinking water, Phileleftheros reported on Thursday.
It said that the complaints appeared to be founded, with officials attributing the smell to the dramatic depletion of water reserves in the dams, particularly Asprokremos dam.
But they have assured that the water is perfectly safe and there is no risk to public health, it added.
The problem will be overcome in the next few days with the transfer of additional supplies to build up stocks of water supplied to Paphos households.
The officials added that tests are carried out constantly and that these showed that the water was safe.
DIKO MP Charalambos Pittokopitis recently discussed the issue with Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis. Also discussed was the issue of desalination plants in Paphos with the minister assuring that a mobile desalination plant will be up and running  by May 2019 and a permanent one before the end of 2020.
