Driver jailed for three months for causing accident while drunk

The Larnaca District Court on Tuesday sentenced a 36 year old man to three months in prison and suspended his driver’s licence for six months for causing an accident while driving drunk and with his driver’s licence suspended.

He was also handed a 800 euro fine.

The accident took place on the old Larnaca-Kofinou road, on April 16, 2017.

The articulated lorry the 36 year old was driving entered the opposite lane and collided with a car driven by a 47 year old woman.

The woman was injured.

After the accident, police conducted an an alco-test on the 36 year old with a final reading of 107 mg, close to five times the legal limit of 22 mg.

Police also found that his driver’s licence had been suspended for two months at the time of the accident and that his car did not have an MOT certificate.
