February 13, 2019 at 2:34pm

The cabinet on Wednesday approved a new set of regulations on animal welfare, Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis said.

The regulations set new requirements for the better protection of animals kept in public and private shelters, animal hotels and farms.

This is a part of Ministry efforts focused towards animal welfare such as increased funding for shelters, a state-sponsored programme for neutering cats and an upcoming scheme for micro-chipping dogs, the Minister said.

A new set of regulations on animal welfare have been already prepared, he added. “We are hoping that they will soon undergo through legislative control by the Law Office and that they will be approved by the Parliament in order to create a complete framework for animal welfare.”
