Cabinet has approved an action plan, submitted by the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, regarding an initiative by the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades to address Climate Change on regional level.

According to deputy government spokeswoman Klelia Vasiliou, the budget for the initiative is about €550,000 for the period 2019-2021, of which €300,000 is for the administrative process expected to be undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and €250,000 for the Institute of Cyprus.

Meetings at the level of Presidents of States are expected to take place in the context of this initiative and a scientific conference will be set up to map the needs at regional level.

Replying to a question on whether a conference on Climate Change will be held in Cyprus, Vasiliou said that this will be decided through the approaches that will follow in the next two years.

She noted that the consultations concern individual meetings, Heads of State visits and political synergies in order to form real, tangible actions, including the exploitation of best practices to deal with the problem.
