A boat with about 80 irregular migrants has been spotted off Cape Greco and the coastguard has sent a boat to accompany it to Larnaca port, the Cyprus News Agency reports.
It said that the coastguard’s radar had picked up a signal from a 10 to 12 metre boat sailing about 20 nautical miles northeast of Cape Greco.
It added there appeared to be about 80 people on board.
Police have alerted all the relevant services of the Republic –the civil defence, immigration and the ambulance service — to be ready to process the irregular migrants whose boat is expected to dock at Larnaca port after 12.30 today.
Manwhile, five Syrians who had crossed over from the Turkish occupied areas at Louroutzina were picked up by police and will be taken to the temporary accommodation centre at Kokkinotrimithia.
