BirdLife Cyprus said they have discovered an active trapping site in eastern Cyprus as part of daily patrols during the autumn bird migration.

In a post on Facebook, the NGO said that every morning at this time of year, they are out in the field monitoring bird trapping levels in the Famagusta and Larnaca districts.

“This morning, our field team found an active trapping site with limesticks and a calling device which was playing the song of a Blackcap. We alerted the authorities, but unfortunately as the trapper was not on site an arrest was not possible on this occasion,” BirdLife Cyprus said.

In total, 107 limesticks and a calling device were confiscated and 15 Blackcaps were released unharmed, it added.
