Police have arrested a 28 year old man from Limassol wanted for the abduction of his former partner and their baby.

Both the 19 year old woman and the 10 month old infant are well and in good health.

They were found in an apartment in the village of Kilani in the Limassol district following a tip off from a member of the public.

Police had issued an arrest warrant and asked for the public’s help to find the man after the woman’s friend filed a complaint at the police station that the 19 year old and the baby had been abducted.

She had told police that they were in a car when the suspect cut them off, forced her out and drove off with his former girlfriend and their baby.

The suspect appeared before Limassol district court on Saturday which ordered that he be remanded in custody for six days.

Police have thanked everyone who helped in their search for the man.

In an announcement they said the man had been tracked down and arrested at around 9.30 pm as part of a police investigation into abduction, assault, driving a vehicle without the owner’s permission and traffic offences.

The offences were allegedly committed at 10.30 am on Friday in Limassol. The complaint was filed at 1.30 pm.

Police said they had activated a crisis management centre to find the suspect as well as the woman and child.

They were informed by a member of the public that the suspect was in a village in the Limassol district. The car was parked outside.

Police and hostage negotiators went to the area, secured a search warrant and entered where they arrested the 28 year old.

The woman and baby were taken to a safe place and the social welfare services alerted.
