The Game Service has issued new breeding permits for hares, bringing the total to 52 while another 30 applications are pending, Phileleftheros reported on Tuesday.
It said that officials are hopeful that in the next few years there will be a recovery in game.
The Game Service clarified that the permits are temporary and will expire once parliament approved regulations on the possession and sale of game which have been pending before the House Environment Committee since 2016.
Permits are currently issued only to applicants who can provide they have a fenced in area bigger than four acres, it added. No permits are issued for premises which use cages.
