A 54-year-old driver from Limassol was arrested hours after trying to bribe a police officer, who was about to give her a traffic ticket, and speeding away when he refused to take the money.
The woman was driving on the highway on Sunday morning around 8:30am near the Yermasoyia and Ayios Athanasios roundabout, when she was spotted doing 117 kilometres in a 80 Km zone.
Traffic police signalled the woman to stop and while they were checking her information, she began to curse at them, according to police.
She then took out her wallet and placed a number of €50 bills inside one of the officer’s vest.
The officer told her at that moment that he was placing her under arrest for attempting to bribe a civil servant and for cursing in public.
The woman quickly put pedal to the metal and sped away, violating the speed limit once again.
A warrant for her arrest was quickly issued and she was taken into custody around noon. She was then released and later will have to appear in court to face charges.
