Parents at The Junior School in Nicosia are up in arms after road works commenced outside the school just as the new school year got underway on Wednesday.
Parents and teachers have complained that the road works could have gotten underway months earlier when the school, situated close to Kyriakos Matsis Avenue and Stelios Mavromattis Avenue – was closed during the summer holidays.
According to sources, the road works will span ten weeks and that the road just outside the entrance into the school yard will be closed off during that time.
Despite efforts by the school board to facilitate parents dropping off their children, the problems continue to remain a burden.
An announcement by the school read that the board had contacted the Nicosia Municipality to warn them about the problems the road works would create but “it appeared that our efforts could not alter their plans.”
