Two injured in Latchi speedboat explosion

Two people were on Thursday afternoon injured in an explosion aboard a speedboat at Latchi harbour in the Paphos district.

The explosion occurred at around 4pm as the boat was being repaired and refuelled.  The exact cause of the blast is  being investigated by the police, the Electromechanical Service and the Labour Inspection Department.

Paphos CID head Michalis Ioannou described the two injured people as a 22-year-old Greek Cypriot man from the nearby village of Neo Chorio, and a 23-year-old Romanian man.

A third person attempting to refuel the boat at the time was thrown into the water during the explosion but was not injured.

An ambulance rushed the two people who were hurt to Paphos General Hospital where they were treated for burns.
