Turkish Cypriots wanting to travel to London are showing an ever growing preference for Larnaca airport rather than the one in Tymbou (Ercan) due to lower airticket deals. An air ticket to London Heathrow from Larnaca actually costs around €330 less than the air fare one would pay if they were to travel from the airport in the north.
According to a research made by Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeniduzen, Turkish Cypriots are more interested in flights for abroad especially during the summer months when air fares for flights to Turkey (where planes leaving from the north need to stop before entering international FIRs) really take off.

Larnaca routes offer cheaper flights and a broader variety of flying options.
The paper compared fares for flight to London from the two airports on 30 August with a 4 September return, a period which is a public holiday in the north. According to their findings, one would have to pay a total of €858 to fly to London with Turkish Airlines. Meanwhile a flight from Larnaca to Heathrow Airport would cost only €531 with Aegean Airlines.
According to the same article, if people are willing to go out of their way to save some money, indirect flights leaving from Larnaca to London start at around €340 with German air carrier Lufthansa. Direct flights to Heathrow start at €482.
According to the paper, travellers have the option to fly to other airports in London such as Gatwick, with passengers having air tickets which start at €465.
Meanwhile, an earlier report released by the tourism office in the north showed that Turkish Cypriot expats show a preference to the Larnaca and Paphos airports over the one in Tymbou.
According to the report in question, the number of TC expats arriving on the island via Larnaca or Paphos airports during the first five months of 2017 had increased by 10.9%, while the number of those preferring Tymbou (Ercan) airport in the north has dropped by 10.7%.
