Turkish and Greek Cypriot arrested for drugs possession

Two men were allegedly arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot anti-drug officials on Sunday after attempting to pass through the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint in Nicosia.

The two men, Turkish Cypriot Cagin Kazimoglu and Greek Cypriot Pavlos Penengaris attempted to pass from the south to the north through the checkpoint in the Turkish Cypriot suspect’s car when they were stopped to be searched.

According to the Turkish Cypriot media, the anti-drug squad was following up on a tip-off and the subsequent search of the car revealed amphetamines and a bottle with liquid which is believed to contain a narcotic substance.

The two men were remanded into custody for one day by a court in the north.

Cyprus police have at the moment no information regarding the arrest of Penengaris
