Troodos cyclist killed in hit-and-run

A cyclist has been killed in an apparent hit-and-run on the Kantou-Platres road in Troodos on Thursday morning, traffic police have confirmed.

According to the first reports from the area, 33-year-old Panagiotis Hadjinikolas from Zakaki died when he was flung onto the side-railing of the road after being previously hit by a vehicle from behind. Police say the cyclist was killed instantly.

Police are calling on members of the public with any knowledge about the incident to contact their closest police station or telephone the citizen’s hotline on 1460. His body was discovered by another motorist at around 6am on Thursday morning.

The incident is the second road-related fatality on Thursday.

Earlier in the morning in Paphos, a 25-year-old motorcyclist died from massive injuries after crashing into a guard railing in Geroskipou.
