Tourism revenue rises 19.1% May 2017

Following the increase in tourist arrivals, revenue from tourism is also on the rise in the month of May 2017, both in sum and as per capita expenditure.

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €291.5 million in May 2017 compared to €244.7 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 19.1%.

For the period of January – May 2017 revenue from tourism is estimated at €649.2 million compared to €530.2 million in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 22.4%.

The expenditure per person for May 2017 reached €696.08 compared to €670.64 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 3.8%. The expenditure per person/per day for May 2017 compared to May 2016 recorded an increase of 6.1%.

In May 2017 a decrease of 12.2% was recorded for the expenditure per person for tourists from the United Kingdom (from €815.68 in May 2016 to €716.04 in May 2017), 20.1% increase from Russia (from €577.02 to €692.76 this year) and 0.7% increase from Germany (from €770.16 to €775.23 this year).

The expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom recorded a decrease of 7.8% (from €78.43 in May 2016 to €72.33 in May 2017), the expenditure per person/per day for tourists from Russia increased by 17.2% (from €70.37 to €82.47) and for tourists from Germany it decreased by 2.5% (from €81.93 to €79.92).
