A teenager who fired a shotgun in the air to scare off a burglar inside his family’s home has been charged by police for discharging a firearm.
The 19-year-old was in his room on Tuesday night at his home in Psevda when he heard his father shouting that there was a burglar in the house.
He grabbed a hunting gun put two cartridges in it then ran into the yard and fired two shots in the air to scare the thief, said the police.
By the time the teenager had gone outside the burglar had already scarpered.
Police were called to the scene where they seized the gun and the spent cartridges following consent from the 49-year-old father.
The teen was taken to Kofinou police station, outside Larnaca, where he was charged for firing shots and will be called to appear before a court at a later date.
