Cloudy skies were expected to give way to rain showers inland and in the mountains on Friday afternoon with more of the same anticipated for Saturday.
According to the Meteorological Department’s official report, maximum inland temperatures on Saturday will also reach a cooler 34°C while those of us on the coasts can anticipate 30°C in the east and 32°C everywhere else. As well as rain and possibly storms, the mountain regions can expect maximum temperatures on 23°C on Saturday.
The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday is also wet for inland and mountain areas, the official forecast notes.
Speaking to the Cyprus Weekly, Meteorological Department official Panagiotis Georgiou earlier this week predicted a drop in temperatures between Saturday and Monday, by up to four degrees Celsius.
Georgiou said the average inland temperatures for this time of year were between 33°C and 34 °C so it would be slightly cooler than usual.
He also said it was not unusual for there to be mountain and inland showers in early September.
