Salamina move up to sixth after beating AEZ

Nea Salamina continued their pursuit for a top six finish after beating relegation battlers AEZ Zakakiou 2-0 in the Monday night kick-off.

The win moved Staikos Vergetis’ side above Ermis Aradippou into sixth place while AEZ continue to languish in the relegation zone.

Salamina top scorer Dmitar Makriev gave the hosts the lead midway through the first half after some poor defending allowed the Bulgarian striker to poke home from close range before Nassir Maachi wrapped up the three points late on after a dreadful mix-up between keeper Ellinas Sofroniou and Nebojsa Skopljak.

APOEL continue to lead the league title race ahead of AEK Larnaca and AEL.
