Joel Damahou scored a late goal to rescue a point for Nea Salamina in the Famagusta derby against Anorthosis in the only CYTA Championship game on Sunday
The 1-1 draw capped off an exciting game in which both sides played some attractive football and missed many chances. Ruben Rayos had given Anorthosis a first half lead when his freekick evaded everyone and flew beyond Robert Veselovsky.
Hosts Nea Salamina – who had former player Liasos Louca in the dugout as coach for the first time – hit the woodwork twice while at the other end Anorthosis missed an open goal.
Damahou eventually struck late on to salvage a draw for Salvage after meeting Gaston Sangoy’s cross with his head to beat Ariel Harush.
