Russian family escape from burning car

A Russian family holidaying in Cyprus narrowly escaped being burnt alive after their rental car caught alight on the Paphos to Polis Chrysochous road.

The incident happened at around 3pm on Monday as the car was in motion.

Its driver noticed something was wrong and pulled to the side of the road where he, his wife and their three children, aged 11, 10 and 11 months, managed to get out before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The mother suffered slight injuries, spraining her ankle while getting out of the car, and was taken to Paphos General Hospital by ambulance and the rental car was completely destroyed.

The Police, Fire Service and Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services are investigating the cause of the fire.

The make of the car has not been made public.
