A video tribute to Petros Karapateas, who was killed when he was 26 years old by a reckless driver in 2013, is making the rounds just days before the Nicosia District Court rules on the case.
According to George Karapateas, the victim’s brother, the case has not received a lot of attention while there have been court delays due to the other driver changing his plea twice, from innocent to guilty, then innocent again.
The driver, the son of a well-known elected politician, was 18-years-old when he was driving a car that struck Petros on 21 September 2013.
George told the media of his own pain, as well as the pain of his family and friends, who are missing Petros after he never got a chance to return home in his motor scooter and died 15 minutes after being hit from the side by a powerful Mercedes at 3:15am.
The case, according to the letter, has been going on for three years and had many delays along the way.
Last weekend, Petros’ friends came together to go on a 750km road trip to honour his memory and his love for adventures.
They also wanted to “bring to light” what they say was a case “hidden from the media’s attention.”
The ruling is expected on Thursday in Nicosia.
