The Public Health Services on Wednesday warned vulnerable members of the public to take particular care due to high levels of dust in the atmosphere.
According to an official announcement from the relevant department of the Labour Ministry, at 9am on Wednesday, particles of less than 10 μm (PM10) and so more likely to be inhaled had reached levels of between 53 micrograms (one-millionth of a gram) per cubic meter of air (µg/m3) and 99 μg/m3 indicating that they would within a 24 hour period surpass the 50 μg/m3 safe limit laid out by the law.

On Tuesday, the levels were between 34 and 56 μg/m3 and on Monday between 20 and 44 μg/m3 depending on the area.
According to an official announcement, those at risk include people with respiratory problems, heart or kidney-related ailments, those with immune deficiencies, children, and people aged over 65.
Anyone in this group should avoid spending time outdoors particularly in areas where the dust is thick and certainly avoid physical exercise outdoors.
They should also stay in well-ventilated and if possible air-conditioned rooms.
Anyone experiencing dyspnoea should immediately contact their doctor or visit the casualty department
The Services also advised people with chronic respiratory disease, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, emphysema, interstitial lung disease and other chronic respiratory diseases to consult their doctors and find out if they should increase the doses of any medication they are taking.
Persons experiencing a severe respiratory problem are also encouraged to use a special protective mask while travelling outdoors.
Even the general population has been advised to restrict their time outdoors, especially where the dust is evident, and avoid physical exercise outdoors.
