An event to mark World Environment Day in Limassol was held Tuesday, with an aim to cultivate awareness among the public, especially the youth, regarding ways to separate and recycle household waste.
Environment Department officer Neoclis Antoniou said Department had organised the event in cooperation with the Limassol Municipality, CYMEPA – Friends of the Sea, the Technological University, and organisations active in the sector of recycling and waste management, Green Dot Cyprus, Super Eco, Weee Electrocyclosis, and Afis Cyprus.
“Our aim is to inform the public mainly about the dangerous waste we have at our homes, such as batteries, light bulbs, detergent packaging, out of date or unused medicines, and to see the options for recycling them”, Antoniou said.
During the event, students had the opportunity to learn about recycling through games. Locals were also able to deposit their waste recyclable materials in the bins that had been placed in the area of the event, including electrical appliances and electronic devices.
