President chairs police anti-corruption meeting

President Nicos Anastasiades on Monday chaired a high-level meeting focusing on effective measures to combat corruption in Cyprus.

And Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nicolaou told journalists at the Presidential Palace that six proposed bills had been tabled for discussion as well as two revised ones that are now pending before the Legal Service.

“The six bills are mainly focusing on the composition and duties of an Internal Inspection Unit within the Police Force,” the Minister also said.

“Certain authorities and jurisdictions have to be granted (to the Unit) to enable them to effectively investigate information or reports related to police corruption,” he added.
