Police in 15kg drug bust at Larnaca Airport

Cyprus Police say a man from Larnaca was arrested on Friday at Larnaca Airport after attempting to smuggle 15 kilos of cannabis onto the island.

The suspect, said to be a 33-year-old man from the Larnaca district, was taken into custody after customs officials and Anti-Drug Squad (YKAN) police officers discovered 28 nylon bags in his suitcase containing a substance later identified as being cannabis.

Following his arrest, YKAN moved in and arrested another two men – said to be a 35-year-old and a 22-year-old. A third man, also said to be 35, had managed to escape on foot after abandoning his car when he saw police officers approaching him.

An arrest warrant has been issued against him.

Police later discovered smaller quantities of cannabis and cocaine at the homes of some of the suspects as well as the cash sum of €23,385.
