Omonia host Ethnikos in crunch Cup tie

Omonia’s game against in-form Ethnikos Achnas will be the pick of the bunch in Wednesday’s Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup Last 16 first legs.

John Carver’s Omonia – who are at home for the first leg – welcome a resurgent Ethnikos Achnas side that recently beat Ermis Aradippou 3-1 and who have a potent attack in the form of Emilio Zelaya and Nika Kacharava.

Omonia, meanwhile, have English striker Matt Derbyshire in hot form with the former Blackburn and Olympiacos frontman currently the top scorer in Cyprus.

The two sides met last week in the league with Ethnikos racing into a two-goal lead before Derbyshire struck a stunning hat-trick in just four minutes to turn things around and hand a 3-2 win for Omonia.

In other games on Wednesday, Anorthosis Famagusta play hosts to second divison side ASIL while title chasers AEK Larnaca take on Karmiotissa at the AEK Arena.

Aris host AEL – who are also in the hunt for a first league title since 2012 – in the Limassol derby while Olympiakos Nicosia and Ethnikos Ashias meet in the all-second division clash.

Future games will see APOEL host Nea Salamina on January 18 while holders Apollon Limassol host AEZ on February 1 on the same day Doxa take on Anagennises.
