Nami: reelection more important than solution for Anastasiades

“At Crans-Montana we understood that for Mr. Anastasiades, reelection was more important than a comprehensive solution”, says the chief negotiator for the Turkish Cypriot side, Ozdil Nami, in an interview with Kathimerini.

Nami says that he considers it unlikely that negotiations will restart from the point reached at Crans-Montana, claiming that the GC side is not ready for a federal solution. This is because, among others, says Nami, the GC side has rejected the solution of a rotational presidency.

The TC negotiator confirms that Turkey made demands for a base with “a number of military troops which would not be a threat to the GC community”, but also the opening of Varoshia as part of a trade.
