Marginal deflation at 0.1% in July

In July 2017, the Harmonized Price Index decreased by 0.1% when compared to July 2016, and remained stable when compared to the Index of the previous month. For the period from January to July 2017 the HICP recorded an increase of 1.0% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Compared to July 2016, the category Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages had the biggest negative change (-5.1%), while the most positive change was observed in the category Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (7.4%).

In comparison to the HICP of June 2017, the category Clothing and Footwear had the greatest change (-16.2%).

For the period from January to July 2017, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest change was noted in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (8.8%).

As regards to the economic origin, the largest change when compared to the Index of July 2016, was observed in Energy with an increase of 5.8%. In comparison to the Index of the previous month, the largest change was observed in Non Energy Industrial Goods (-5.2%).
