Man charged with DUI clocked doing 199km/h

A man from Limassol is in police custody after being caught driving 199km/h on the Nicosia-Limassol bypass whilst also being over the legal alcohol limit.

The motorist, who police say is a 33-year-old man, was clocked doing 199km/h when the legal speed limit for that particular stretch of road close to Mesa Geitonia is 80km/h. The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The man underwent a breathalyser test which showed that he had 42μg per 100ml of alcohol in his blood when the legal limit for his age group is 22μg per 100ml.

He was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody where he was formally charged. He is expected to appear before a Limassol magistrate at a later date.
