No substantial development was recorded on Monday in the much-hyped recount of the Limassol ballot following last year’s municipal elections with the process now set to continue on Friday.
Incumbent mayor Nicos Nicolaides last Friday appealed the decision for a recount requested by former mayor Andreas Christou who lost the contest by a mere nine votes.
But the Legal Services only submitted their appeal on Monday morning and this was the reason the Supreme Court asked for the postponement till Friday.
Christou submitted a request for a recount on February 7, maintaining that he had received the most votes and subsequently questioning the validity of the counting process.
Christou bases his appeal on alleged witness accounts stating that valid ballots in his favour had been counted as spoilt ballots and spoilt ballots in favour of Nicolaides had been counted as valid.
