Larnaca man dies during Easter festivities

The family of a Larnaca man hope an autopsy on Tuesday will shed light on why he collapsed and died during traditional Easter games.

Xenophon Xenophontos, 53, a technician for KEO, died on Monday. He had been watching and participating in traditional Easter games in the Larnaca district village of Anafotia when he collapsed.

Xenophontos was soon after pronounced dead.

Coroner Sophoclis Sophocleous was due to carry out an autopsy on Xenophontos at Larnaca General Hospital on Tuesday.

Traditional Easter games in Cyprus include egg and spoon races, sack races, tug or war, and blind man’s bluff, amongst others.

Many villages organise Easter game events including live music and food on Easter Monday.
