Larnaca Airport ground staff strike over pay

Ground staff at Larnaca Airport on Monday morning carried out a two-hour work stoppage as a warning strike in protest at their employers’ failing to give them all of their contracted pay rises. Short delays were reported as a result.

According to reports, the companies employing the ground staff, Swissport Cyprus Ltd and LGS Handling Ltd, have not paid the second half of the funds as laid out in the workers’ collective contract.

The companies and union representatives have for some months now been engaged in negotiations mediated by the Labour Ministry over the return of temporarily cut pay and the return of pay rises as agreed in 2013.

The companies have put salaries back to pre-cut levels and have begun to pay part of the promised raises but are requesting changes to the initial agreement before paying out any more.
