When tradition and food fuse, there is no chance of leaving the palate unsatisfied.
That’s because you yearn for the familiar tastes of your childhood, simple meals but with a rich taste. Mummy’s cooking, when good, is important for our lunch outings. And this applies to “Katsarola tis giagias”, a restaurant in Nicosia run by the owner of Occhio for patrons who love cooked or grilled food. Hence “I Foukou tou Pappou” (Grandad’s BBQ”, which completes the name of the restaurant.
Granny cooks only at lunch. Beans, broad beans with greens, black-eyed peas, runner beans with pork, okra, aubergines, roast lamb in the oven and the dish of the day are some of the choices.
What stands out is the fine ingredients and generous portions that are served. It is clear that the appetizers – such as the tasty cheese spread and tahini — are made in house. The granddad takes over in the evening. His specialty is tasty, juicy pork kebab. There’s also pork chops, chicken with oregano, lamb chops, village sausage, grilled mushrooms, halloumi in pitta, meat patties with a Greek touch and sheftalies.
Daily from 12.00 – 15.00 and 19.00 – 23.00.
