Police carrying out Limassol-Paphos highway checks discovered 155 grams of cannabis, scales with traces of the same substance, a pair of scissors and a cash sum believed to be drug-related, in a car being driven by a 27-year-old man.
The Paphos resident, who was later taken into custody, had been initially stopped for a car inspection near Paramali village in Limassol district.
Police spotted the driver covertly depositing a bag under the vehicle, as soon as the car was flagged down for the check, with his perceived aim being to retrieve it after the inspection.
Police thereafter found the bag contained 155 grams of cannabis. Further investigation revealed the scales which bore traces of hemp, a pair of scissors, and a sum of 100 euros in cash inside the vehicle.
The suspect was also discovered to have been driving without his vehicle being insured and with an expired driving licence.
He was placed under formal arrest by court order and detained to facilitate further investigation.
