On the occasion of the sixth international March Against Monsanto, environmental groups in Cyprus are staging a demonstration on Saturday.
The Cyprus Greens along with the Pancyprian Ecological Agricultural Association in cooperation with the Cyprus Life Movement will hold the demonstration at 6:30 pm in Nicosia’s Phaneromeni Square on Saturday (May 20).
The demonstration aims at voicing Cyprus’ objection to the cultivation and consumption of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
“It is an attempt to inform the public and a dynamic reaction against Monsanto’s international attempts to dominate the agricultural market by selling GMO seeds and products as well as catastrophic pesticides and the backing they receive from a number of world leaders,” announced the Greens in a press release on Friday.
The Greens have also programmed information drives at the following producers’ markets to inform the public on the benefits of consuming local produce:
Anthoupolis Producers’ Market: Sunday, May 21 at 09:00
Nicosia Producers’ Market: Wednesday, May 24 at 09:00
Limassol Producers’ Market: Saturday, June 3 at 09:00
Polemidia Producers’ Market: Sunday, June 4 at 09:00
