Greek Cypriots spent €1.5m on hotels in the north

Greek Cypriots spent a total of €1.5million on hotels in the north according to credit card figures during the first three months of 2017.

Experts predict that figure to grow by some €500,000 per month as the island edges closer towards the summer months.

According to figures released by JCC Payment Systems, Greek Cypriots spent more on hotels, with shopping for clothing coming in second above expenditures made in casinos.

Greek Cypriots spent €36,344 on clothing in March, while they spent a total of €124,620 in clothes shops within the first three months of the year.

Figures also showed that Greek Cypriot credit card payments were made to the tune of €24,000 in March for services at casinos, and a total of €106,000 for the first three months of 2017.

Credit card payments for air fares to Turkey from the airport in Tympou (Ercan) dropped to €102,304 for the first three months of 2017 when compared to €100,000 monthly average of previous years.
