A Greek couple living in Deryneia are to appear before the Famagusta District Court on Wednesday in connection with the theft of €29,000 from a pharmacy in Ayia Napa.
Police arrested the couple, a 24-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man, following a witness testimony.
According to police, the 49-year-old owner of the pharmacy reported to police that a black purse containing €29,000 that had been under the shop’s counter had gone missing.
Police who examined the CCTV footage observed that just after 8am, an unidentified man, his face covered with a scarf and wearing white surgical gloves, entered the pharmacy from an aluminium side door, walked up to the counter and took the purse before exiting from the same door.
At the time of the theft, the chemist was open and three employees were present in the shop. Police dusted for fingerprints without any results.
Several items were taken from the pharmacy by police as evidence. Police obtained an arrest warrant against the Greek couple following witness testimony, but police came up empty handed following a search of their apartment.
The pharmacy is insured against theft, and police are continuing their investigation
