Greece to give archives of ’74 events

The Greek government has pledged to give Nicosia access to their archives in relation to the 1974 events in Cyprus.

The pledges were made by Greek officials, during the first day of an official visit by House President Demetris Syllouris to Athens.

Upon his arrival in Athens, Syllouris met this morning with Greek National Defence Minister Panos Kammenos, who underlined the efforts of both men to “highlight the truth” in an array of issues, including the humanitarian aspect of missing persons.

Kammenos assured the House President that the “the decision of the Greek government and of the Prime Minister Tsipras is to provide any additional pieces of information that might be kept by the General Staffs” or in any other archive – apart from those already provided by the Ministry of Defence – regardless of their content.

The aim, he added, was to highlight the truth concerning the Greek coup d’Etat, the Turkish invasion and the drama of missing persons.
