We heard trendy bar restaurant Cafe Mercedes have upped their game and are now serving gourmet street food. Chef Petros Andrianou has launched a playful menu based on diverse street food cuisines from around the world adding a gourmet twist. Creations may be served in small plates (price range €4.50-€12) but the flavours are huge, and often unexpected. The Untraditional Cyprus Salad includes pieces of pomegranate ‘soutziouko’, ‘trimithopita’ slices and goat’s cheese brûlée drizzled with orange-cumin vinaigrette. Other creations include the Jamon Iberico croquettes with Manchego cheese, a Spanish recipe, the mini pulled pork buns from Korea, pizzeta with two types of mushroom (Portobello and Oyster), the sundried tomatoes on Lebanese bread from the Middle East and the Chinese Dirty Duck Rolls with Peking duck, apple, cucumber, sauce and topped with hibiscus powder. You definitely need more than one visit to try it all.
