German tourist arrested in cannabis bust

A 52-year-old German tourist has been arrested and two Cypriot men, aged 33 and 38, are wanted for questioning after Drug Squad (YKAN) officers foiled an 11kilo cannabis deal.

Acting on information, YKAN officers staked out a hotel in Limassol where, on Saturday night, they carried out the raid after they saw the German suspect, who was carrying a satchel, approaching the driver of a rental car outside the premises.

Officers managed to apprehend the German suspect but the driver of the rental car managed to escape.

Under questioning, the German said that somebody in his homeland had instructed him to make the drop in Cyprus and that he (the suspect) would receive €3,000 for the job. Two Cypriot men are currently wanted for questioning in connection with the drugs bust.

Based on the information that they have gathered, YKAN has issued an arrest warrant for the two Cypriot suspects.

Investigation are continuing.
