‘GCs must prepare for a federal solution’

Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci says the Greek Cypriot community “must prepare” for a federal solution for the island or accept the other alternative of two equal states living together side-by-side.

Addressing reporters at his office – where he welcomed children set to participate at the 19th children’s festival on 23 April – Akinci said that while efforts were being made in the north for a federal solution on the basis of political equality, it was not right that his community “should be isolated from the rest of the world.”

Akinci met with President Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday with both leaders beginning a new phase of Cyprus peace talks following a bumpy few months with regards to relations between the two sides.
