Galatea’s Myths

As part of Pafos2017, the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus cordially invites you to a dance performance of Galatea’s Myths by DanceCyprus.

What: Galatea’s Myths
When: Friday, 14 July – Sunday, 16 July
Where: Medieval Paphos Castle, Pafos and Rialto, Andrea Drousioti 19, Platia Iroon, Limassol

The story of Galatea has been pivotal to the development of Pafos’ identity, as according to the myth, Pygmalion asks Aphrodite to breathe life into his sculpture of Galatea, with whom he has fallen in love. The city of Paphos was named after the fruit of their love, their son Pafos.

Dancecyprus Company presents a neo-classical ballet inspired by this founding myth, choreographed by Davide Bombana. The performances includes over 20 dancers from Cyprus and Italy and 25 members from the Symphony Orchestra of Staatsoper Hannover.

Music is by award-winning Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The performance will take place at 8.30pm on July 14 and 15 at Pafos Castle Square and the 16 July at Rialto Theatre Limassol.

Tickets cost €10 / €15 (VIP).
