“I anticipate that more sessions of the National Council will be required to complete this discussion,” announced Christodoulides to reporters following the closing of Monday’s session.

President Nicos Anastasiades convened the National Council on Monday aimed at reviewing the latest developments on the Cyprus problem and to investigate future strategy.

The Government Spokesman also said that the President would wait until the end of the discussion before deciding on how to utilise the positions put forward by the political heads.

“A very productive dialogue is taking place. We will see how to use the positions at the end of the discussions where we will see if there is a common approach,” said Christodoulides.

The government Spokesman refrained from mentioning if any new proposals had been submitted by the political parties.

The presence of Greek Foreign Minister Nicos Kotzias at the National Council session on Tuesday morning falls within Nicosia’s and Athens’ coordinating framework for future action on the Cyprus problem.

Kotzias’ visit on Tuesday is especially, if not exclusively, concerns the approaches to security and guarantees.

“As you can understand, and it has been made extremely clear in the statements made by the Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, the Greek government is not involved in the chapters that concern the internal issues concerning the Cyprus problem,” added Christodoulides.
